Heretto and The MACH Alliance
As of writing this blog, Heretto has become the first and only CCMS to join the MACH Alliance. To us, this is an easy reason to celebrate. But you should be celebrating too.
What is the MACH Alliance?
The MACH Alliance is an industry association built around a simple but demanding idea: that software should be Modular, API-first, Cloud-native, and Headless. Together, those four principles describe systems that are built in independent, swappable pieces rather than one big, tangled application. Member companies have to prove their products actually meet that bar, which is why this means so much more than just another badge on our website.
We have long aligned with MACH before becoming a member, because they believe what we believe: Content delivered through open, predictable APIs, broken into modular pieces rather than locked inside one big system, is the foundation modern information systems need. That's not a new idea for us. It's the same thinking behind DITA XML, the open standard Heretto CCMS is built on for structuring and reusing content.
Why does joining the MACH Alliance matter to Heretto?
Here's why that really matters: closed, proprietary systems are often the easiest ones to get started with, and that ease is exactly the trap. When a vendor controls the rules of their own platform, you don't get a say in how those rules change over time. If the platform decides to raise prices, change its export formats, or discontinue a feature you depend on, there's not much you as a customer can do about it. An open architecture flips that arrangement. Nobody owns the standard, so no single vendor gets to bend it to their advantage. And that puts something incredibly valuable back in your hands: control.
You get to decide which tools you use, how you use them, and how they fit together today, tomorrow, and forever.
That’s why we think this marks the start of something bigger than one company's membership announcement. Documentation is one piece of a much larger digital transformation, and we believe it’s time for the tools that manage it to reflect that reality. Heretto joining the MACH Alliance is our signal that we’re building for a future where documentation doesn’t have to live in isolation, and where the systems around it don’t have to either. We want Heretto to be an example of what’s possible when documentation becomes part of a larger, open, composable ecosystem—and we believe this is just the beginning.
